Am I the only one who is left disappointed and angry at India’s dismal performance at the T20 World Cup? With BCCI avoiding the blame, there seems to be only one scrapegoat for the disaster – the IPL. “Fatigue due to a demanding  schedule” – is the official reason quoted by Dhoni. One is left to wonder whether he meant the schedule on the field or off it. The IPL nights have been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Sleaze, booze, glamour and cricket punched together to make one deadly cocktail. 

I have a friend who is interning at a 5 star hotel in Kolkata as a hotel management student. He attended all 7 IPL parties held there and told me shocking stories that never reached reached the media. No wonder Dhoni said that the parties were a “distraction”.

I did some digging and came out with these clandid photos – distracting to say the least. What is your opinion people. Does this surprise you?

So do you think all this is responsible for the World Cup fiasco?

The only surprising thing about the whole thing is why these pictures didnt make headlines in our newspapers, who otherwise are hell bent in providing voyeur pictures of anyone remotely famous. I guess even the media had their share of fun in the IPL. I am sure Modi the person he is, would have made sure that each media man (and woman) had his (her) share of fun (!!).

39. Lets face it. How many of us know Pankaj Advani, Pratima Boro or Deepika Kumari? I guess a very few. Although hockey is our national sport, I guess most of us don't even know the name of the captain in contrast to the knowledge of who being selected as the wicket keeper and vice-captain of the indian cricket team. So, I think its unfair to blame the cricketers alone. I remember Pankaj Advani saying to reporters that his failures make more news than his success. Believe me on this, this 'frustration thing' of the fans will fizzle away like soda once those same cricketers make some half century and win a game or two. All of us who are writing now like a 'critic' on this site will be glued to our respective television set.
    But not me. God knows that I have not watched even a single match of this year's IPL or IPL 3. Even did not feel like watching. I'm sure more people like me and similar steps can make at least some difference. Of course, the rest is upto you. Let your conscience be your guide.

52. For those people who have been thrashing Dhoni in this forum article, remember one thing that he said.
    To quote Dhoni, he has always maintained that he never, I mean never, attended any of these IPL parties. Same goes for Sachin Tendulkar. Both these men have maintained their distance and dignity.
    Remember, cricket is a team sport and no matter how good or great a captian you are, it's your team that needs to perform. And if half your team is at these IPL parties, there are going to be fatigue issues.
    For those who recall when we first won the 20-20 cup, the IPL was after that. The next two years, the IPL was BEFORE the world cup (separated by a couple of days). So if anybody is to blame, blame the BCCI and Lalit Modi for this fiasco.
