My girlfriend is not having periods for the last 6 months. Will it affect pregnancy?

asked Sep 19, 2018 in Questions by Zya_john (120 points)
I am in a serious relationship with a girl for the last 7 years. Since we started our relation she has been missing her periods for 3 months somtimes 4 months and even somtimes for 6 months.

She hasn't even had a proper periods for the last 7 years. Now she is 22 years and 4 months old. She weighs around 65 kg and is having a height of 163cms. I am actually worried wether she will get pregnent or not as I am about to marry her in a year.

She had visited the doctor and once she takes the hormone pills only then her periods will get bak to normal. The problem is that she had tried controlling her food and taking proper exercise to resolve the problem. But that didnt help her. Once if she starts taking hormone pills then only the periods get normal.

I am afraid wether we will.have a baby or not.

Please help me guys.

Your girlfriend has a medical problem, but it is not something serious. There are many women who do not have a fixed menstrual cycle. But it is rarely so long. It normally varies from 28 days to 35 days. Is your girlfriend overweight or is she anemic (underweight)? In that case she should control her diet or attempt to put on weight.

As the doctor has suggested, she needs to take hormone pills regularly and this will stabilize her menstrual cycle. You should also check with her gynaec if she can conceive normally. There is nothing to feel shy in asking the doctor about these issues.

You have been in a relationship with her since she was 15. Have you had sex with her all these years? How old are you? It is nice to know that you intend marrying her soon.

Clear all your medical doubts with your Doctor. You and she will be at peace of mind.

Hi John,

As Longhands said, you must consult the doctor. Your girlfriend is suffering some medical condition. Period are related to your girlfriend pregnancy but personally I know the girls who had same issue but they have conceived.

We do not know whats the actual reason for delayed periods. I will suggest you consult a senior Gynecologist. They will clear your doubts and tell you whats the reason for delayed periods. She is too young and I think you will cure your issues very soon these things are very common in modern era.

Best of luck

If she is not normal in her periods then it is really hard for her to get conceived and this is something she needs to take it seriously so talk to her. If hormone medicines help her to get normal periods then she has to take it for quite long time unless she gets normal at her periods with time. Gynecologist is the expert in such situation as it is a medical issue and she needs to see a proper doctor for her issue. This is curable if takes right medicine.
